Amanda Walsh falls for Matthew McConaughey
Amanda Walsh recalls the moment she first laid eyes on her Ghosts of Girlfriends Past co-star Matthew McConaughey.
“He was playing the side of a cart with his hands, it was the perfect Matthew McConaughey moment ’cause you hear about him playing the bongos. I went, ‘Wow, it’s him,’” says Walsh on the line from her L.A. home.
The 27-year-old Rigaud, Quebec, native and former MuchMusic VJ plays Denise, a bridesmaid, in the rom-com inspired by A Christmas Carol. McConaughey is a womanizing photographer who’s visited by three ghosts while attending his brother’s wedding. Although they show him what a schmuck he’s been to the ladies, it doesn’t stop him from trying to pick up Walsh’s character. And Walsh is the first to admit she was just a little bit nervous acting alongside the hunky star.
“There’s a moment in the movie where we are suppose to meet upstairs and one of my shoes caught under my other shoe and I actually face-planted in front of everybody,” says Walsh. “I flew out of the frame, right out of the shot. It was like that moment when you are laughing-slash-crying at the same time. I was laughing really hard, hoping that people would laugh with me, and not at me.”
She didn’t have to worry, it was all good, just like Walsh’s surging career. After leaving MuchMusic to act, Walsh has landed increasingly bigger parts in better and better projects. And now the former VJ says she’s actually able to relax while listening to music.
“When I worked at MuchMusic every time a song came on I couldn’t help but go, ‘Who is this, what album is it from, have I interviewed them, am I going to have to interview them?’ I enjoy music more now that it’s no longer associated with work.”
